Stargazing at Cherry Springs State Park
Sometimes, in the rush of running a B&B, we get caught up in all we have to do and let the things that should capture our attention go unnoticed. Here at Frosty Hollow, we marvel at how many people come to our area to view the stars, the meteor showers, and the Milky Way. From all over the East Coast and from many countries, we welcome guests who have never seen more than just a few stars their whole lives. Yet, we glance out a window from time to time and mention how great the viewing will be at Cherry Springs State Park that night and go on about whatever must be done next. But, occasionally, the sky is so full of diamonds that it stops even us in our tracks! Even the Big Dipper is full of stars! That's when we stop everything and go sit on the deck and enjoy the sight that most people only dream of seeing once in their life.
Here's one more time when we have to feel sympathy for those who live in or near the cities. Oh, I know. I know how we here in the rural countryside don't have access to all the sights and attractions in the city. And I know we don't have the shopping and restaurants, but there are things out here in the boondocks that make up for the lack of sushi! Like the stars! There is one lesson I learned from a breakfast room full of serious astronomers one morning. Never, and I do mean NEVER, say to people who spend several thousand dollars on a telescope, "Well, aren't stars kind of like malls? If you've seen one, you've seen them all?" What follows will be a lecture that will last about an hour and more information about nebulas and constellations than you ever knew you needed! Joe went by me and whispered in my ear, " Don't ever say that again." I had already figured that out.
